ADHERENCE TO TREATMENT: GLOBAL CHALLENGE, TANGIBLE SOLUTIONS

Significant problems with adherence to treatment persist across geographies and therapy areas, leading to non-optimal care and delays in recovery. Aside continuous progress in healthcare technologies and the regular launching of new drugs every year, the number one thing that can be done to improve the health of the overall population is to increase adherence to treatments. Non-adherence to treatment is a preventable risk factor.
This great challenge was the main driver to launch in 2021 the first edition of the a:care Congress, for which Abbott has collaborated with international experts in behavioral science and thought leaders across disease areas to develop a unique expertise in improving adherence through behavioral science.
In 2021, the event that was endorsed by 44 international and national medical societies across multiple therapeutic areas raised interest to more than 25,000 healthcare professionals from around the world to connect to the event and about 10,000 participated in the live sessions.

This year, the a:care Congress 2022 will expand its reach to include regional satellite meetings and go further to reveal the hidden factors that cause challenges with adherence, and provide practical solutions to improving adherence in clinical practice.

Addressing adherence is a unique opportunity to improve patient outcomes. Taking this opportunity means addressing common misconceptions, beliefs, and biases about why patients are non-adherent, and looking at the issue with fresh eyes.

What will be addressed?

Adherence has been framed as a problem of patient understanding, and even memory (patients “forget” their treatment).  But what if this ignored the real issues, and reinforces misconceptions?

At the a:care Congress 2022, we will address common misconceptions and reveal the true drivers of adherence.

The congress will highlight the hidden factors behind adherence challenges, and present practical solutions that have been proven to adequately support healthcare professionals in breaking medicine non-adherence for their patients.
We will hear from global experts in both adherence and medicine, understand the true reasons people struggle to adhere to treatment, and learn how to predict and address adherence problems through better interactions with patients.

This year’s Congress combines global and regional sessions to provide global and local insights and interaction around the latest thinking in behavioral science related to adherence and practical solutions.
