Session: International Society of Gynecological Endocrinology – From treating diseases to treating patients: changing mindsets

This video is a recording of a session from a:care congress 2022.

Menopause is not only defined by the absence of menses and the appearance of hot flushes – it comes with many physical and psychological challenges that can be managed with appropriate medication. Professor Tommaso Simoncini discusses the physiological changes that occur during menopause and the social and psychological impact it can have on a woman’s life. Professor Simoncini demonstrates that the healthcare community is not sufficiently aware of the impact menopause has on women’s lives, which leads to healthcare practitioners underestimating the rate of non-adherence to menopause treatment and the damage non-adherences causes. Professor Simoncini invites medical and scientific societies to embrace and address this major healthcare challenge with awareness campaigns and training programs.

“Scientific societies and women’s advocacy groups should join efforts to revive the interest in menopause care. This is key to ensure that women are empowered to understand the health problems posed by menopause and to be able to make informed choices about their health and life,” he says.
